Teluk Intan is a town in Hilir Perak District, Perak, Malaysia. It is the district capital, the largest town in the district and fourth largest town in the state of Perak with an estimated population of around 172,505, more than half of Hilir Perak district's total population (232,900).
In the early days, the town was known as Teluk Mak Intan, after a female Mandailing trader. It was here that the Perak rulers held court from 1528 until Kuala Kangsar became the royal town in 1877.During the British protectorate era, the name was changed to Teluk Anson (Anson Bay), in honour of a British officer and last lieutenant-governor of Penang, Major-General Sir Archibald Edward Harbord Anson, who drew the plan of the modern township in 1882.
In 1982 during the centenary of the town's establishment, the name was changed again to Teluk Intan (Diamond Bay) by the Sultan of Perak. The Leaning Tower of Teluk Intan is one of the town attractions. The town has a number of colonial buildings and Chinese shophouses together with modern buildings, few shopping complexes and a modern cinema.
There is a famous stall at Jalan Sekolah which sells cold drinks and snacks. The name of the stall is called Lo Hon Ko, however, the stall is famous for its Ais Kacang (blended ice). Also near the Lo Hon Ko stall, there are another local delicacy called Yao Yao Bing, which is a home made sherbet with a local favorite flavor. However, the Yao Yao Bing stall are not always open. If the stall is open, the sherbet sold out very fast. The best place to have specially roast Hainan Coffee is Keng Heng Kopitiam. It is a kind of Robusta coffee. However, the local worker group prefers sweeter taste. Thus, the coffee usually taste too sweet for normal people. Make sure to ask for the coffee for less sugar.
Chinese traditional biscuit with crispy layer outside, soft malt sugar paste inside. Teluk Intan Heong Peah is very famous as well as Heong Peah from Gunung Rapat (Ipoh). It is the best thing to buy as souvenirs.
The only method to get in is by local bus services. You may hire a taxi but the price isn't cheap.

Saturday Night Market (Sunday Morning Market) Every Saturday night and Sunday morning, there will be a flea market selling local Malay delicacies. The location is near the Leaning Tower.
Chitra Pournami Festival During beginning of May or sometimes end of April, there will be a festival of observed on the day of the full moon in the month of Chitirai. The whole street at the city center will be closed and a lots of stalls selling various of Hindu traditional snacks, offerings and others are being set up. This is the largest festival held in Teluk Intan every year and it is very similar to Thaipusam.
