Beautiful experience of a lifetime. The decorated rooms with awe inspiring paintings on ceilings and walls made it special. It reminded us of Indian palaces or French Versailles beauty. It was crowded but if you get advanced skip line it’s very smooth and no waits. The bridge of sighs is nice touch to the visit which is both sad and provides one of best views of Venice in addition to the armory rooms which also have fabulous views of Venice. We skipped the basilica next door which had nightmare lines and don’t regret coming this way instead.
Enjoy.
If you love history and architecture then it’s worth a visit. It is quite expensive but it’s worth it to learn about the history of Venice. The building is beautiful and there are lots of displays explaining what each room was used for. My favourite part was the dungeons/ prison with the tiny doors. You can just imagine what it would have been like down there. I would love it if they have more of a display to tell you about how some of the areas were used and who was kept down there.
Nice day out and worth the visit.
A brilliant place to visit! Personally, I enjoyed this more than St Marks Basilica. Outstanding art and architecture, the whole place is steeped in history. Some of the rooms and the scale of them will take your breath away. A must see when visiting Venice. Tip: we got a skip the line and guided tour. It was well worth it, we spent zero time waiting and the tour brought the place alive.
A must-see. It’s worthy buying the ticket in a bundle with other museum passes. Doge’s Palace is a little bit colder and darker than the other museums - during my visit nearing the closing hours in Jenuary it was hard to see the paintings properly. It’s worth considering the lighting conditions before entering the museum.
There is much to see. The courtyard is exceptional, similarly to the staircase. The prisons are also open for viewing. There are many beautiful paintings on display by Veronese and other artists. The palace itself survived several fires, it is inspiring to think of its gradual transformation across the ages.
