One Happy Island! Aruba earns its famous slogan honestly — lying south of the hurricane belt with 360 days of Caribbean sunshine, the impossibly powdery Eagle Beach, world-class windsurfing at Aruba Hi-Winds, and a cosmopolitan Oranjestad infused with Dutch, Latin and Caribbean warmth.
Palm Beach strip hosts all-inclusive mega-resorts (Marriott, Riu, Barceló). Eagle Beach has smaller boutique hotels and timeshares. Downtown Oranjestad has a handful of boutique options. Budget travellers find affordable guesthouses in San Nicolas (the coolest part of the island).
Walk Aruba's famous beaches — Eagle Beach consistently tops Caribbean rankings. Explore the rugged Arikok National Park (20% of the island is protected) with lava cactus forests and conchi swimming holes. Visit the deserted gold mine ruins at Balashi. Kiteboard at Aruba High-Winds on Hadicurari Beach.
Arikok National Park protects native Aruba rattlesnake (endemic), parakeets and the island's water supply in freshwater caves. Only licensed tour operators may enter the park's most sensitive areas. Sea turtle nesting occurs on quieter beaches — never disturb.
Keshi yena — a whole Edam cheese rind stuffed with spiced chicken, olives and raisins — is the definitive Aruban dish. Try fresh catch ceviche at small restaurants in Sint Nicolas, funchi (polenta with okra stew), and local Balashi beer on a beach deck at sunset.
Aruba Carnival (January–February) is extraordinarily lavish — the two-week Grand Parade through Oranjestad is one of the Caribbean's most elaborate. Aruba Hi-Winds (June) draws world-champion windsurfers for the international competition on Hadicurari Beach.
Dera Gai, a traditional Carnival game of rooster-themed street celebrations (gai = chicken), is uniquely Aruban lore. Aruba Soul Beach Music Festival (May) brings major R&B and hip-hop acts to Palm Beach.
No mandatory vaccinations for most visitors. Tap water is safe — Aruba has its own desalination plant producing some of the purest drinking water in the Caribbean. No malaria or dengue risk (Aruba sits outside the mosquito tropical zone). Healthcare is excellent for a small island.
Setar and Digicel offer 4G/5G coverage across the island. Excellent Wi-Fi at all hotels. Prepaid SIMs available at Reina Beatrix Airport and supermarkets. WhatsApp is universal.
